CCAD launches Creative Entrepreneur Boot Camp & evening Continuing Education Classes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus College of Art & Design’s Community Education department is launching two new programs for creative adults: a weeklong Creative Entrepreneur Boot Camp this summer and evening continuing education classes this fall.

“Creative skills are key to succeeding in today’s economy, from mastering InDesign and Photoshop to learning how to make strong photos and videos,” says Christine Hill, Director of Community Education at CCAD. “We’re launching the Creative Entrepreneur Boot Camp and expanding our continuing education classes for adults to add evening classes so adults have more opportunities to boost those crucial creative skills.”

Creative Entrepreneur Boot Camp will take place June 17 – 22 at CCAD, and registration runs through June 10. The intensive weeklong course will focus on contemporary business practices, from branding a business and building a website to accounting and financing. The program runs in tandem with CCAD’s Educators’ Summer Studio program and will also provide participants with a chance to engage in studio art classes, enjoy yoga, and meet other creative professionals from across the country.

The program will also feature workshops and presentations by creative business experts, including Craftin’ Outlaws Organizer Megan Green and Claudia Retter, a Columbus-based artist behind the book Flying Adventures who will talk about what it takes to get a major project off the ground.

“It’s important for artists to have business skills because, as an artist, you have to make your own magic,” Retter said. “Waiting to be ‘discovered’ is a big gamble and puts your destiny in someone else’s hands. Life is too short for that.”

CCAD is also launching Continuing Education Classes on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9:30 p.m. to give creative adults more opportunities to learn.

Classes will include Advanced Adobe Creative (covering Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator), Digital Photography, and Exploring Mixed Media. The courses will run Sept. 12 – Nov. 14. Registration opens July 15 and closes Sept. 5.
